We arrived to a very, very busy Skidegate and Queen Charlotte City due to the music festival this weekend. We drove to Hyden Turner Campground in Charlotte and found it very full, with people even sharing campsites. It is very obviously music festival weekend and it’s buzzing with people as well as wildlife. We solved the problem by heading down to Cemetery Beach and setting up camp right above the high water mark, with enough time to set up my fairy lights, make a big salad for dinner and watch the sun set over Sleeping Beauty mountain.
I have a good feeling about this wonderful place. As the tide is going out, clams are spouting everywhere, salmon are jumping, seals, ravens, herons and eagles are swooping in for a low tide dinner and bats feast on beach bugs. Nature is so noisy here. Everything is buzzing and singing and cawing and splashing. So amazing to sleep right on the beach under the stars but I’m really glad I brought my ear plugs for bedtime.
